Temperature Monitoring Unit

Allowing geothermal technicians to simultaneously measure and record temperature, water level and depth from the safety of a vehicle cabin

What is the TMU?

The Temperature Monitoring Unit (TMU) is a temperature probe deployment which allows operators to measure the temperature within drill holes, whilst remaining within the confines of the vehicle cabin. The TMU allows the probe to be winched down a drill hole, recording temperatures as it goes, and once the bottom of the hole is reached, return to the surface.

The components which make up the TMU are:
     1. A mobile arm for locational deployment of the probe.
     2. A winch and fairlead, allowing feeding and retracting of the probe cable.
     3. The temperature probe.
     4. An optional temperature monitoring camera.

Specifications

Operational Functions

  1. The ability to select the position of probe deployment by extending and rotating the mobile arm
  2. The ability to raise/lower the temperature probe using the winch
  3. The ability to measure and record the temperature inside a drill hole throughout the probe’s descent
  4. Provision of thermal imaging output to facilitate visualisation of temperatures
  5. The ability to safely and securely stow the temperature probe when not in use

"This system is customised and is the first of its kind. The technology is readily available, however it has been engineered into a solution that’s never been done before. Apart from reducing risks, it also saves a lot of time. It is an excellent demonstration of our values. The leadership, commitment and collaboration continues to be displayed between the team on site, the Technology Projects team, all the way to our EGM."
